SAMPLES:
Are smart people happier than others?
I don’t think so. Smart people tend to be very goal-oriented, which makes them vulnerable to tying their happiness to “winning” or achieving those goals. They are correspondingly vulnerable to feeling depressed when things don’t go well. The problem is more acute for smart people like entrepreneurs who are especially prone to depression. When they’re depressed, even a big win won’t make them happy. Meanwhile, a big loss or ongoing problems can send them intoa downward spiral. In other words, smart people often make themselves miserable by being too goal-oriented. By contrast, people who aren’t so goal oriented, like students with low scores or normal people doing 9-to-5 jobs are more likely to feel satisfied with themselves and their lives.
Well, I believe that highly intelligent people are better at cooperating and are more generous to others. The reason may be that smarter people are more patient — a quality that is critical for cooperation. More patience allows people to step back from the situation and exert self-control. Besides, generosity is a sign of intelligence: smart people are less likely to take and more likely to give. They find ways to help others that cost them little, or even benefit them too. For example, there are many great stories of successful entrepreneurs who show their generosity with the community, as they understand the importance of giving back, such as Bill Gates, Warrant Buffet. And with their great contribution to society, it is undeniable that smart people are often more generous than their less intelligent counterparts.
3. Why are some children more intelligent than others?
I believe there are many factors that contribute to the intelligence of a child. Intelligence is a complex trait that is influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. In terms of the former, if both parents are intelligent, there is a high possibility that their genes will pass down to their children, which help their children become smarter than kids with low IQ parents. Regarding thelatter, factors related to a child’s home environment and parenting, education and availability of learning resources, and nutrition, among others, all contribute to intelligence. For example, children raised in wealthier and more educated households grow up to be smarter than those brought up in poorer homes. The reason could be educated parents are more likely to talk at the dinner table, take their children to museums and read stories to them at night, that sort of thing, which are activities said to help boost a child’s intelligence.
